
Požega Music School
The design that hits the high notes.
Reconstruction of the existing fire station building for use as a music school.
Total building area: 2525 m2 (27,179 sq ft).
Design Task
Design a new space for the school in compliance with music standards, preserving the existing dance hall by turning it into a concert hall, and giving the building a on temporary character.
Challenges
Multiple classrooms were requested for various music instruments (violins, drums, piano, etc.) separated by demanding acoustic barriers. The building had to fit into the ambient within a listed heritage zone of the City of Požega. Considering numerous student sand the narrow street in front of the school carrying an increased volume of traffic, greater pedestrian access floor had to be designed.
Our Solution
Design a new space for the school in compliance with music standards, preserving the existing dance hall by turning it into a concert hall, and giving the building a contemporary character.
Project Progress
Commenced in May 2007.
Preliminary, general, and detailed designs have been developed along with the fire protection study, and the construction permit was obtained.
Completed and opened in 2014.
